About the Author

When John travels, border agents show him their passports.

John grew up in northeast Kansas working on farms since the age of 11. John attended a rural high school and earned his BS and PhD degrees in organismal biology and physiology & cell biology, respectively, at the University of Kansas. After completing his dissertation, John won a Cancer Prevention Fellowship through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and spent a year at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where he earned his Master of Public Health in environmental & occupational health.

John then completed four years of mentored research in the NCI's Laboratory of Metabolism where he applied mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to radiation biomarker development and launched the field of radiation metabolomics. He then joined the faculty of the Department of Biochemistry and Cellular & Molecular Biology at the Georgetown University Medical Center where he remains a sponsored affiliate. John now serves as assistant branch director and professor at South Baylo University's Virginia branch campus in Annandale. John also works independently as a consultant with academic and government clients involved in research and education. John is a SAT, ACT, and academic tutor for StudyPoint Inc and has logged over 325 hours helping high school students prepare for their standardized tests and academic subject rigors. He also tutors via WyzAnt.com and writes for KPR Media (ScienceRecorder.com) and the Youth Fitness Council, for which he also serves as advisory board member.

John has a specific interest in the intersection of science and the Christian faith. He agrees with Oxford Professor John Lennox in not only asserting that Christianity perfectly supports science but also in suggesting that philosophical naturalism is, contrary to popular belief, antagonistic to science. John is in the early stages of branching into writing and thought in this area.

In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his family. He has a passion for experiencing the natural world and respecting and appreciating the extraordinary diversity of life on Earth. John's favorite human accomplishment is two-wheeled transportation and loves to get out for spins on his mountain bikes and motorcycles. John has reconnected with his rural agriculture roots and recently began rearing backyard chickens. He dreams of building a sustainable organic free-range chicken farm, complete with its own means of the renewable production of feed.
