The little Y chromosome turns out to be crucial, finally earns respect

The Y chromosome, the sex chromosome that differentiates males from females, has long been thought do little else. But recent research suggests it contains genes that important in the regulation of other genes in cells throughout the male body.

The human Y chromosome is smaller than its X counterpart and until now, scientists thought it did little more than keep developing embryos from becoming females where present. However, new examinations of the male sex chromosome reveal startling discoveries.
